At BodySoul we aim to provide the highest quality physical therapy services so that our clients can attain optimal health and well-being. With our expertise in rehabilitation and movement science our aim is to tackle those ailments (obesity, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension) plaguing our society at intolerable rates; hence our goal at BodySoul is to intervene at all levels of care, with a specified focus on primary and secondary prevention. Integrating faith and health through the use of womanist strategies BodySoul seeks to serve the community as “othermothers,” provide physical healing, and excel in hospitality via collaboration with church and community-based health organizations.
Faith and Health is where and how one's faith and/or spirituality meets and interacts with one's health (or where a community’s faith meets and interacts with the health of the community). BodySoul engages individuals and communities at the intersection of Faith of Health. Our aim is to reach people where they worship - physically and virtually - by collaborating with churches and faith-based organizations to provide Health Promotion Education through the physical therapy lens. The name BodySoul implies and recognizes the spiritual component that comes along with physical healing.
Rev. Dr. Teoma Loeb is the embodiment of BodySoul. As a Baptist minister and a Physical Therapist, Dr. Loeb combines her passions into her life’s calling: healing and speaking. As a young girl, Teoma grew up in a traditional Baptist church in San Francisco, Ca and served at various points in time as the President of the youth choir and the youth usher board. Teoma quickly became accustomed to fearless public speaking by participating in yearly black history month oratorical contests where she would author and recite and her own poems.
Rev. Dr. Teoma Loeb accepted her call to ministry at age 18 and preached her first sermon on April 14, 2002 at the age of 20. Dr. Loeb then embarked on a worthwhile educational journey attaining first her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State University, where she also served as captain of their Division I women’s basketball team. Rev. Loeb continued her studies in Washington DC and graduated from Howard University with a Master of Physical Therapy degree. After gaining physical therapy experience, Teoma then went on to pursue her Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University - where she realized the necessity of combining her faith with her professional goals.
As a result and in conjunction with her Divinity degree, Rev. Loeb attained certification in Faith and Health. While completing her Divinity degree at Emory University, Dr. Loeb simultaneously completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Alabama State University and presented her final capstone entitled: The Intersection of Healthcare and Faith for the Promotion of Health Equity. In this capstone Dr. Loeb, viewing religion as a social determinant of health and focusing on the particular congregational strengths of the black church, proposed a model for explaining how physical therapists could partner with the black church for health promotion.
Dr. Loeb considers herself to be a Faith and Health Educator and has plans to further her education by pursing doctoral work in the field of Health Promotion. Dr. Loeb's goal is to help decrease health disparities and inequities by implementing education masterclasses in churches, faith-based and community-based organizations. Having recently been ordained in December 2018, Rev. Dr. Teoma Loeb currently serves as an Associate minister at New Providence Baptist Church in San Francisco, Ca and also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, Ca. During her free time, Dr. Loeb enjoys spending time with her husband Will, her twin sister Tatiana, and her family and friends.
